Care built around function, not just symptoms
Mariel is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with about ten years of nursing experience and a background in internal medicine and pain management. She believes in individualized, evidence-based care that improves function and quality of life, not just symptoms.
She spent most of her childhood in Monterey, California, graduated from high school in El Paso, and moved to San Antonio for college and nursing school. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UT Health Science Center San Antonio and has called the city home ever since. While working as a registered nurse, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas at Arlington.
As a nurse practitioner she has managed chronic and acute conditions for adult and geriatric patients in internal medicine, and worked as a specialist in pain management — evaluating and treating patients with acute and chronic pain and building plans that help them stay active and independent.
She is fluent in Spanish, so she can care for many of San Antonio’s patients in the language they’re most comfortable with.

Away from the clinic
Outside the clinic, Mariel spends much of her free time at skateparks cheering on her son, a sponsored vert skateboarder who competes on half-pipes. She also enjoys archery, a sport that rewards the same focus and steady hand she brings to patient care.
