Vascular & Interventional Radiology
Samy A. Al-Bayati, M.D.
Board Certified · Vascular & Interventional Radiology
English/Arabic
One of the three board-certified interventional radiologists who perform our embolization procedures — and the only one who trained in urology first. That combination is rare, and it shows up in the men’s health and pelvic work we do.
Two specialties, one set of hands
Dr. Al-Bayati brings a rare combination: training in both urology and interventional radiology. He earned his medical degree in Baghdad and completed a urology residency there before coming to the United States, where he completed a research fellowship in urology, a residency in diagnostic radiology, and a fellowship in interventional radiology — all at UT Health San Antonio, where he now serves as a faculty member.
He specializes in complex embolization and endovascular procedures, is a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology and the American College of Radiology, and has been recognized repeatedly for leadership, academic excellence and teaching.
For you, the practical part is this: the doctor who reads your imaging is the doctor who performs your procedure. Nothing gets handed off between the diagnosis and the treatment.

The procedures Dr. Al-Bayati performs
All three of our interventional radiologists perform the practice’s embolization procedures. Here is what that covers.
Away from the clinic
When he’s not practicing medicine, he’s with his wife and two children — usually mid-project. He’s a DIY enthusiast who finds real satisfaction in a well-tended yard.
